SYRIA: ‘ Denies rebels took over Army Airport on border with Jordan ‘

#AceNewsReport – SYRIA:June.13: Syria denied claims by rebels that they took over an army airport in southern Syria along the border with Jordan on Thursday.

A news flash on state television said the army had so far repelled three attacks on the outskirts of the al-Thala airport, Reuters reported. Rebels said they seized the airbase in a renewed offensive.

The loss of the airport would compound setbacks for Damascus in the area after losing a nearby military base this week.

They also recently denied that a military plane had crashed in southern Syria, according to state television. Rebels said earlier they had shot down a Russian-made MIG jet, Reuters reported. The released video featured what appeared to be a burnt-out plane.

It was shown near the site of fighting around a military airport that rebels have been trying to gain control of since Wednesday.

#Breaking144 ‘ Islamic State suspect Kagirov arrested – Reports ‘

#AceBreakingNews – ST PETERSBURG:June.11: Russian security services have detained Ilyas Kagirov, who is suspected of being the head of a group recruiting students for Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in St. Petersburg, NTV reported.

The group was working at the State Marine Technical University and had contacts in Syria, security sources say.

Several Russian citizens have recently been detained on the Turkish border.

They were allegedly heading to Syria to join IS.

ST. PETERSBURG, June 9 (RAPSI) – The Federal Security Service (FSB) has arrested a Russian national who allegedly headed the St. Petersburg group of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested as part of a case opened under Part 2 of Criminal Code Article 205.5 (the creation of and participation in a terrorist group).

Eight suspects have been arrested in St. Petersburg since the summer of 2014, including two alleged leaders of local Hizb ut-Tahrir cells.

The FSB official said Hizb ut-Tahrir activity in St. Petersburg has been stopped as a result of a joint operation of the local FSB and Interior Ministry departments.

Hizb ut-Tahrir (the Party of Islamic Liberation), founded in Jerusalem in 1953, is banned in several Arab and Central Asian countries. Russia’s Supreme Court banned the group from operating on the territory of the country in 2003, describing it as a terrorist organization.

Hizb ut-Tahrir members are regularly arrested by the police across Russia, mainly in big cities in central Russia, the Volga region and Siberia. Also, there are many supporters in Crimea, which rejoined Russia last spring.

A criminal case over the creation of a Hizb ut-Tahrir cell in the St. Petersburg region was opened last May.

SYRIA: ‘ Lebanese Troops Kill 16-Al-Nursa Front Terrorists ‘

#AceNewsReport – SYRIA:June.06: Lebanese servicemen eliminated 16 militants of the al-Nusra Front terrorist group near the border with Syria, a source in Lebanon’s army said Saturday.

“Sixteen Jabhat al-Nusra militants were killed. The artillery of Lebanese army straddled the [al-Nusra] detachment, which tried to break into the al-Uyun gorge in the south-east of Arsal town [near Syrian border],” the source told RIA Novosti.

Arsal was the epicenter of fierce clashes between the Lebanese forces and the Islamic State and the Nusra Front rebel groups in August 2014. The extremists captured some 30 Lebanese servicemen, of whom they have since released eight and executed four.

After the Lebanese army liberated the town, the terrorists fled to the mountains, organizing rear bases there. They occasionally attack Lebanese villages and the army checkpoints from remote mountainous areas.

BRITAIN: ‘ CAMERON REVEALS DETAILS OF NEW-COUNTER-TERRORISM BILL ‘

#AceWorldNews – BRITAIN – Nov.14 – British Prime Minister David Cameron revealed some details about the nation’s new counter-terrorism bill, which will be officially presented later in November.

One of the measures includes a right to refuse British nationals returning to the UK after being involved in jihadist fighting abroad, Cameron said in an address to Australia’s parliament on Friday.

Other parts of the bill will deal with airlines – such as not allowing certain airlines to land on UK territory if they do not comply with British no-fly lists and security screen procedures.

Cameron made the first mention of the laws in September.

Britain raised its security threat level to the second-highest in August due to increasing danger posed by returning Islamic State fighters from Iraq and Syria.

“We have to confront this threat at its source,” Cameron said in Canberra.

‘ ISLAMIC STATE ACQUIRE MANPADS CAPABLE OF SHOOTING DOWN A PASSENGER PLANE – REPORTS ‘

#AceNewsServices – IRAQ – October 26 – Islamic State militants in northern Iraq have modern portable air defence systems that are capable of shooting down a passenger plane, Germany’s Bild am Sonntag newspaper reported citing the country’s foreign intelligence agency.

' ManPad Directions for Use '

‘ ManPad Directions for Use ‘

According to the media report published on Sunday, the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) informed the German Bundestag of the threat at a closed session last week.

The German intelligence agency said that the Islamic State(IS, formerly ISIS) militants located in northern Iraq have obtained air-defense systems from the captured military arsenal of the Syrian Army, according to the report.

The IS militants have obtained the 1970s models as well as modern man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS).

These light-weight surface-to-air missile systems can be fired from the shoulder and operated by one person.RT reported.

“Unlike other air defense weapons, MANPADS are easy to use, barely-trained militiamen can fire the weapon accurately,” the report said, adding that the weapons are especially dangerous for landing or taking off aircrafts.

German authorities have not yet confirmed the report.

Several airlines, including Austrian Airlines and Qatar Airways, still fly in the airspace over northern Iraq in control of the extremists.

‘ FAMILY MEMBERS OF ISLAMIC STATE ARE SENT TO REFUGEE CAMPS ‘

#AceWorldNews – October 26 – Refugees from the war in Syria and Iraq include family members of Islamic State (ISIS) fighters, leading to security concerns among authorities, the Kurdistan Region’s representative in Spain said.

“Some of the refugees are families of members of the Islamic State,” said Daban Shadala, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) representative.

“They are sending their families (to the refugee camps) while they continue to fight us,” he said this week in a briefing to the Human Rights Commission of the Basque parliament in the city of Vitoria.

Shadala, whose comments in English were translated through an interpreter, was quoted as saying that weapons had been found in some of the houses where refugees were placed.

‘ PUTIN SAYS US PROMOTES TERRORISM BY FINANCING AND DIVISION OF WORLD NATIONS ‘

#AceWorldNews – SOCHI – October 26 – Russian President Vladimir Putin says the United States promotes terrorism by financing terrorists and creating division instead of strengthening unity among world nations.

' US promotes terrorism by funding Takfiris '

‘ US promotes terrorism by funding Takfiris ‘

The Russian leader made the comments on Friday during a speech at the plenary session of the 11th meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi.

“In Syria, just like in old times, the US and its allies began to provide militants with direct funding and weapons to incite filling of their ranks by mercenaries from different countries,” Putin said, adding that this is how the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group has turned into a “de facto army.”

“They [ISIL terrorists] are active in a highly effective manner, from the military perspective, they are real professionals,” he stated.

Putin also said another reason why the ISIL has gained so much power is because the so-called anti-ISIL coalition, led by the US, is creating division among regional powers.

The Russian president went on to say that such “unilateral dictatorship” does not help anti-terror efforts; instead it causes “growing chaos” in stable states.

‘ ISLAMIC STATE AND HAMAS ARE BRANCHES OF THE SAME TERRORIST TREE ‘

#AceNewsServices (Opinion) – October 25 – Last month, addressing the U.N. General Assembly, Benjamin Netanyahu made a connection between the Islamic State and Hamas.

These terrorist entities, Netanyahu said, have a lot in common.

Separated by geography, they nonetheless share ideology and tactics and goals: Islamism, terrorism, the destruction of Israel, and the establishment of a global caliphate.

And yet, Netanyahu observed, the very nations now campaigning against the Islamic State treated Hamas like a legitimate combatant during last summer’s Israel-Gaza war. “They evidently don’t understand,” he said, “that ISIS and Hamas are branches of the same poisonous tree.”

The State Department dismissed Netanyahu’s metaphor. “Obviously, we’ve designated both as terrorist organizations,” said spokesman Jen Psaki. “But ISIL poses a different threat to Western interests and to the United States.”

Psaki was wrong, of course. She’s always wrong. And, after the events of the last 48 hours, there ought not to be any doubt as to just how wrong she was. As news broke that a convert to Islam had murdered a soldier and stormed the Canadian parliament, one read of another attack in Jerusalem, where a Palestinian terrorist ran his car over passengers disembarking from light rail, injuring seven, and killing 3-month-old Chaya Zissel Braun, who held a U.S. passport.

Islamic State, al Qaeda, Hamas—these awful people are literally baby killers. And yet they produce a remarkable amount of dissension, confusion, willful ignorance, and moral equivalence on the part of the men and women who conduct U.S. foreign policy. “ISIL is not ‘Islamic,’” President Obama said of the terrorist army imposing sharia law across Syria and Iraq. “Obviously, we’re shaken by it,” President Obama said of the attack in Canada. “We urge all sides to maintain calm and avoid escalating tensions in the wake of this incident,” the State Department said of the murder of a Jewish child.

“Not Islamic,” despite the fact that the Caliphate grounds its barbarous activities in Islamic law. “Shaken,” not stirred to action. “All sides,” not the side that targets civilians again and again and again. The evasions continue. They create space for the poison tree to grow.

The persistent denial of the ideological unity of Islamic terrorism—the studied avoidance of politically incorrect facts that has characterized our response to the Ft. Hood shooting, the Benghazi attack, the Boston Marathon bombing, the march of the caliphate across Syria and Iraq, and the crimes of Hamas—is not random. Behind it is a set of ideas with a long history, and with great purchase among the holders of graduate degrees who staff the Department of Justice, the National Security Council, Foggy Bottom, and the diplomatic corps.

These ideas are why, in the words of John McCain, the terrorists “are winning, and we’re not.”

‘ ISRAEL DOES NOT SEE ISLAMIC STATE AS A THREAT AND HERE IS WHY – OPINION ‘

#AceNewsServices (Analysis & Opinion) October 24  At first sight, it seems that Israel is just as preoccupied with the rise of Islamic State as anyone else.

PHOTO: A masked man speaking in what is believed to be a North American accent in a video that Islamic State militants released in September 2014 is pictured in this still frame from video obtained by Reuters October 7, 2014.

PHOTO: A masked man speaking in what is believed to be a North American accent in a video that Islamic State militants released in September 2014 is pictured in this still frame from video obtained by Reuters October 7, 2014.

Israeli media report diligently on the extremist group’s assault on the Kurdish town of Kobani and run at least a story every few days on its atrocities.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu references Islamic State frequently, as do other Israeli ministers. And the stories of two Palestinian citizens of Israel who died fighting for the group have been recently featured in the press.

Still, Israel remains the least concerned and least directly threatened country in a region increasingly rocked by Islamic State’s advance. It certainly does not see the group as an external threat. Shocking though the events in Syria and Iraq are, Israel is far beyond the range of even the most sophisticated of Islamic State’s weapons.

The group’s immediate territorial interests do not extend to anywhere near Israeli borders, and its support in areas adjacent to Israel is still negligible.

What’s more, unlike many militant groups and states in the region, Islamic State has declared itself emphatically disinterested in intervening in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, preferring instead to draw its support from Sunni revanchism and introducing a semblance of order into war-torn regions of Iraq.

Islamic State also does not yet pose an internal threat to Israel. Unlike most countries bordering Syria, Israel has not been politically or demographically unsettled by the civil war there. The diversified systems of control employed by Israel – some liberal democracy and some military rule — have cemented differences among the country’s constituencies disgruntled with the Israeli government.

The divisions have precluded the emergence of a broad uprising similar to those that constituted the Arab Spring. The relatively short, highly militarized border between Israel and Syria has prevented the influx of refugees into Israel, as well as any significant spread of the fighting.

In the absence of incentives to change policy, Israel remains determined to display an official disinterest in Iraq and a staunch neutrality toward Syria. Although the government has often expressed sympathy for victims of the Syrian civil war and offered some of them medical treatment, and has on one or two occasions hit targets in Syria, Israel has been careful to signal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that it considers him a relatively reliable neighbor and would not work actively to replace him.

It’s also unlikely that Israeli leaders will come under any internal pressure to change this position. While the images of the war in Syria have prompted some Palestinians to travel abroad and take up arms against the Syrian regime, sometimes fighting alongside jihadist organizations, the numbers have been small — and their wrath, for now, directed at the Syrian regime, not at Israel. Images of Islamic State’s atrocities, combined with the group’s religious fanaticism, contempt for nation-states and express disinterest in the Palestinian cause have left Palestinians — largely secular, nationalist and deeply committed to building their own nation-state — more alienated than attracted.

Even attempts by Israeli centrists and the U.S. to tie progress in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process to the fight against Islamic State have left Israel unmoved. Israel, the argument went, should make concessions in its talks with Palestinians to mollify Arab populations as their governments yet again throw in with the Americans — and by extension, with the Israelis. This tactic rests on the idea that the only real threat that Islamic State poses to Israel, however remotely, is if it toppled any of the “moderate” Arab states, especially Jordan, by invading them or capitalizing on their local discontents, or a combination of the two.

But the Israeli government, which has no interest, political or ideological, in facilitating a two-state solution, has so far responded with a shrug. The view in Israel is that the moderate Arab regimes are sufficiently threatened by the spread of Islamic State to prioritize drawing the Americans in, warts and all. If anything triggers revolutions in these countries, it will not be the plight of the Palestinians.

The lack of direct threats notwithstanding, Israel has been able to extract some short-term gains from unfolding catastrophe. With the West again mobilizing against a radical Islamist group, Netanyahu find himself on the familiar turf of the “war on terror.” He is capitalizing on this by trying to equate Palestinian nationalism — especially the religious wing of it — with Islamic State at every conceivable opportunity (even if with little perceptible effect).  Second, Israel is again making itself useful to the West as a corner of stability and pro-Western sentiment  in an otherwise turbulent Middle East — and is using this to push the Palestinian issue further down the agenda.

These considerations apart,  Israel sees Islamic State as something that’s happening to other people — and the country will do its best to keep it so.
