` Ukrainian Government Announces Formation of the National Guard with 6,000 Combat Ready Troops ‘

#AceWorldNews – UKRAINE – May 19 – Last week the Ukrainian government announced the formation of the National Guard, after it was revealed that the army only had 6,000 combat ready troops compared to Russia’s 200,000.

The volunteer force will bolster the under-strength military and protect Ukraine’s borders after Crimea having been effectively annexed and Russian forces now building up along Ukraine’s eastern border.

The first to answer the call were the self defence groups who fought on the barricades during last month’s revolution.

So we headed down to the Maidan to hopefully tag along with them to the training grounds outside of Kiev for their induction day.

` John Kerry US May impose Sanctions on Whole Sectors of Russian Economy ‘

#AceWorldNews – NEW YORK – April 29 – The US may impose sanctions on whole sectors of Russian economy, if Russia continues the same policy towards Ukraine. US Secretary of State John Kerry said this in an interview to The Wall Street Journal on Monday.

When asked why the American government continues punishing individual Russians or single Russian companies and does not impose broader sanctions on whole sectors of the Russian economy — the energy, financial or defence sectors — Kerry answered: “We’re inches away from that now. And if they continue on this path, that’s where it’s heading.”

Regarding the developments in Ukraine, the USA has imposed further sanctions against seven Russian officials and 17 companies. In particular, the case in hand is freezing assets, which may be under Washington’s jurisdiction, as well as ban on American visas.

According to John Kerry, the already imposed sanctions have a certain economic and political effect. The Wall Street Journal notes that the best argument is the fact that Russia has not sent its troops to Ukraine’s east.

` Ukraine’s National Guard Blocks All Roads Leading to Sloviansk to Prevent Protesters Getting Reinforcements ‘

#AceWorldNews – KIEV – April 25 – Ukraine’s national guard has blocked all the roads leading to the rebellious town of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region where the mostly Russian-speaking working-class population is demanding a referendum on the future of the region and a changeover of the country’s state structure into a federation.

The ministry said this had been done to deny the protesters an opportunity to get reinforcement.

Earlier in the day, Sergei Pashinsky, an interim acting chief of Ukraine’s “presidential administration”, declared the start of phase two of the armed operation near Sloviansk.

He stated bluntly that the goal was to block the city.

Representatives of the people’s volunteer guard in Sloviansk said that only one transport route – a road leading to the regional capital Donetsk — remained unblocked until recently.
