WASHINGTON: ‘ Supreme Court Denies Gay-Marriage Appeals in Five States ‘

#AceBreakingNews – Washington) – The Supreme Court has turned away appeals from five states seeking to prohibit same-sex marriages, paving the way for an immediate expansion of gay and lesbian unions.

The justices on Monday did not comment in rejecting appeals from Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The court’s order immediately ends delays on marriage in those states. Couples in six other states should be able to get married in short order.

That would make same-sex marriage legal in 30 states and the District of Columbia.

But the justices have left unresolved for now the question of same-sex marriage nationwide.

Utah May Bring Back Firing Squad Executions

European Union export ban Due to its use for executions in the US, the UK introduced a ban on the export of sodium thiopental in December 2010, after it was established that no European supplies to the US were being used for any other purpose. The restrictions were based on “the European Union Torture Regulation (including licensing of drugs used in execution by lethal injection)”. From 21 December 2011 the European Union extended trade restrictions to prevent the export of certain medicinal products for capital punishment, stating that “The Union disapproves of capital punishment in all circumstances and works towards its universal abolition”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lethal_injection

The real reason lethal injections may be stopped, so now, good old fashioned shot to death. I wish the Death penalty on many, but knowing the legal system as I do, I know many have and will be killed by mistake, and I am talking Worldwide here, this is barbaric USA!
A Utah politician wants to bring back firing squads as a method of execution after controversy over a botched lethal injection in Oklahoma. Republican Representative Paul Ray believes death by gun is a more humane and cheaper form of execution, and wants it to be an option for criminals sentenced to death in his state. He plans to introduce his proposal during Utah’s next legislative session in January. Lawmakers in Wyoming and Missouri tried to pass similar legislation this year, but both efforts failed. Mr Ray believes firing squads may seem more acceptable now, especially after drug shortages complicated lethal injections. The default method of execution in the US also came under heightened scrutiny last month when prisoner Clayton Lockett’s vein collapsed and he died of a heart attack more than 40 minutes later. “It sounds like the Wild West, but it’s probably the most humane way to kill somebody,” Mr Ray said.

Clayton Lockett died in pain after a botched lethal injection

“The prisoner dies instantly. It sounds draconian. It sounds really bad, but the minute the bullet hits your heart, you’re dead. There’s no suffering.” However, critics say things can go wrong with any method of execution. They cite a case from Utah’s territorial days in 1897, when a firing squad missed Wallace Wilkerson’s heart and it took him 27 minutes to die. tah outlawed firing squads in 2004, citing the excessive media attention it gave inmates. But those sentenced to death before that date still have the option of choosing it. The last execution by rifle in the state was 2010, when five police officers used .30-caliber Winchester rifles to kill Ronnie Lee Gardner, who murdered a lawyer in 1985 while trying to escape from a courthouse. Ray’s proposal would give all inmates the option to be shot. Opponents say firing squads are not necessarily a foolproof answer. It is possible an inmate could move or police could miss, causing the inmate a slow and painful death, said Richard Dieter, executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, which opposes capital punishment.

` Missouri House of Representatives Pass Measure Mandating 72-Hour Waiting Time for an Abortion’

#AceWorldNews – UNITED STATES – MISSOURI – May 15 – The Missouri House of Representatives passed Wednesday evening a measure mandating a 72-hour waiting period before having an abortion in the state.

With the 111-39 vote, the legislation, passed by the state Senate earlier this week, now goes to Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.

Should Nixon veto the legislation, there is likely enough support for the measure in the Republican-dominated Legislature to override it.

The state, which has only one clinic that provides abortion procedures, previously mandated a 24-hour waiting period before an abortion. Missouri joins South Dakota and Utah as the only states that require a three-day waiting period.

` Utah Mother Accused of Killing Six of her New Born Infants is Charged with Murder under Infanticide '

#AceWorldNews – PROVO, Utah (Reuters) – LATEST – A Utah mother accused of killing six of her newborn infants over a decade and stashing their bodies in a garage was charged on Monday with murder in their deaths.

Megan Huntsman, 39, made a brief court appearance in Provo, Utah, as the first-degree murder charges were revealed by Utah County Attorney Jeff Buhman.

Hunstman could face life in prison if convicted but will not be eligible for the death penalty, prosecutors said.

Police have said that Huntsman, who was arrested on April 13, has admitted to strangling or suffocating the six babies just after their births between 1996 and 2006 in a rare case of serial infanticide.

` Utah Mother Accused of Killing Six of her Newborn Infants over a Decade and Hiding Bodies in Garage ‘

#AceWorldNews – UTAH – (Reuters) – A Utah mother accused of killing six of her newborn infants over the course of a decade and hiding their bodies in the garage of her home was charged on Monday with first-degree murder in the babies’ deaths.

Megan Huntsman, 39, made a brief court appearance in Provo, Utah, as the charges were revealed by Utah County Attorney Jeff Buhman, who told reporters after-ward that DNA from the infants’ remains was still being analysed to positively determine the their parentage.

Police have said Huntsman, who was arrested April 13, has admitted to strangling or suffocating the six babies just after their births between 1996 and 2006.

The infants’ remains were found wrapped in old towels, shirts and plastic and stuffed inside cardboard boxes in the garage.

The body of a seventh infant was found disposed of in the same way, but authorities have said they believe that child was stillborn.

Police have said Huntsman secretly gave birth to all seven babies without medical assistance at the house where she previously lived in the town of Pleasant Grove, just north of Provo.

They said she apparently managed to keep her pregnancies concealed from the outside world.

` Michigan’s Ban on `Same Sex-Marriage ‘ is Ruled is Unconstitutional ‘

#AceWorldNews – MICHIGAN – March 21 – A federal judge struck down on Friday Michigan’s ban on same-sex marriage, saying the law passed by voters a decade ago is unconstitutional. US district court Judge Bernard Friedman’s ruling, however, does not make clear whether the state can file an appeal.

Nor is it clear whether marriages can begin immediately, given the timing of the decision came after most county clerk offices in the state were closed.

Seventeen states and the District of Columbia have legalized same-sex marriage.

Since December, bans on gay marriage have been overturned in Texas, Utah, Oklahoma, and Virginia, though appeals to those decisions have put the cases on hold.
