(BIRMINGHAM, U.K.) WM Police Report: Officers able to name 15yr-old accomplice in drive-by-shooting in Coventry after reporting restrictions lifted #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Oct.25: Carren Monga opened fire at Abdul Xasan from the back seats of a stolen VW Golf in March 2020 and when sentenced in January was told he’d spend a minimum of 27 years behind bars…..

#AceDailyNews WM Police UPDATE Report: Drive-by shooting killer identified for first time as name ban lifted: We can now name a man jailed for life almost a year ago for shooting dead a teenager in a Coventry street after a judge lifted reporting restrictions.

22nd October 2021

Carren Monga
Pictured: Carren Monga

Officers are able to name 15-year-old accomplice Riaz Ahmed, who was driving the Golf, but as Monga had outstanding court matters against him the judge imposed an identify ban on the gunman: However, the 19-year-old was sentenced last Friday (15 Oct) on two counts of conspiracy to burgle and the judge has now accepted our appeal to lift the order.

CASE NOTES: Getaway driver Ahmed sped away from the murder scene in the Golf Type R – stolen in Rugby the previous day – and arranged for others to set it on fire in an attempt to destroy forensic evidence: But the pair weren’t on the run for long: We quickly identified them as potential suspects and both were arrested in the early hours of the next morning after we raided their home addresses in Coventry: Both were electronically tagged at the time due to their suspected involvement in other offences – and we seized tagging information that showed they were in the street at the time of the murder: Shotgun cartridges found in the burned out car were also matched by ballistics experts to spent cartridges recovered from the murder scene: Despite strong evidence against them the pair denied murder – but following a four week trial at Birmingham Crown Court they were found guilty of conspiracy to murder: Monga received jail terms of 24 and 36 months for the Coventry burglary conspiracy – he struck at addresses in Beake Avenue, Greens Road and Boswell Drive in Coventry – which will run concurrently to his life sentence: Both he and Monga were linked to the C2 gang in Coventry while the victim – who’d been arrested just days before the murder for possessing an imitation gun – was connected to a rival group known as RB7: A post mortem revealed he suffered two gunshot wounds to his back which caused catastrophic internal injuries. He died in the street: Ahmed – now aged 16 – is serving a minimum of 18 years in youth detention followed by prison.

Abdul Xasan
Pictured: Abdul Xasan

Monga shot Mr Xasan – himself just 19-years-old – as he walked in Harnall Lane, Hillfields just after 2.30pm on 13 March 2020.

Detective Superintendent Scott Griffiths led the investigation: He said: “I’m grateful to the judge for allowing us to now identify Carren Monga as the murderer. It’s important we show justice being served to Mr Xasan’s family, friends and the wider public: These sentences must act as a stark warning about the dangers of gang affiliation: you run the risk of serious injury or death, or the possibility of spending much of your life locked up. There has to be a better option for young people: We can help people who want to turn their backs on gang culture. Along with our partners including charities and support groups, we can help young people make better choices: But for those who insist on affiliating themselves to violent gangs there is a very strong possibility they are going to be seriously injured, killed or spend much of their life locked up in jail.”

(BIRMINGHAM, U.K.) WM Police Report: Ten warrants we executed on Thursday morning around 150 officers teamed up to addresses across east of the city who they suspect are linked to supplying crack cocaine and heroin, plus several violent incidents #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Oct.24: The men – aged between 22 and 37 – plus a 16-year-old boy were questioned yesterday and later charged with conspiring to supply Class A drugs…..

#AceDailyNews reports on County Lines Operation: 140-plus arrests, drug seizures and protecting children after WM Police Officers served warrants and have charged nine men and a boy with plotting to supply large amounts of drugs following one of our biggest operations in recent history

One of 10 warrants we executed yesterday

Here’s who we’ve charged:

•    Zulfikhar Khan, aged 28, from Primley Avenue, Hodge Hill
•    Mohammed Hamza Butt, 22, from Cobham Road, Bordesley Green
•    Mohammed Ishaq Khan, 37, from Knowle Road, Sparkhill
•    Sohail Hussain, 28, from Priorygate Way, Bordesley Green
•    Mohammed Imran Khan, 24, from Imperial Road, Bordesley Green
•    Mohammed Riaz, 36, from Carlton Road, Bordesley Green
•    Kaleem Khan, 34, from Arden Road, Saltley
•    Nowshad Mohammed, 36, from Bordesley Green
•    Anwar Awais, 25, from Allens Croft Road, Brandwood
•    …and a 16-year-old boy from the Bordesley Green area.

They are all set to appear in Birmingham Magistrates Court today (21 Oct). As part of our investigation we’ve seized heroin and cocaine with a street value of hundreds of thousands of pounds.

There was no hiding place for drug dealers who plague our communities as we worked with neighbouring forces to target County Lines supply chains in a week-long offensive.

All last week (11-17 Oct) we hit the homes of people suspected of running cannabis, crack cocaine and heroin supply networks from the West Midlands.

We arrested 143 people, seized 630 wraps of Class A drugs and 3,400 cannabis plants, plus recovered weapons including firearms and more than 30 knives and machetes.https://www.youtube.com/embed/VerwKmO4ULE?autoplay=1&start=0&rel=0

Our officers – who worked alongside police in Warwickshire, West Mercia and Staffordshire in cross-border operations – also recovered nearly £30,000 in cash and dozens of suspected ‘burner’ phones suspected of being used as drugs hotlines.

They will be examined by investigators as we look to bring down County Lines gangs who exploit children and vulnerable people to move drugs from the West Midlands into shire counties and smaller towns.

Superintendent Wendy Bailey, our lead for County Lines, said: “These gangs are ruthless: they use people as commodities, coercing or threatening them to deal drugs on their behalf. It’s not rare for these people, including children, to be attacked by rival drugs gangs.

“Last week was really successful: we executed 43 warrants during as we went after offenders and ran operations at transport hubs, and on the road and rail network, looking for people moving drugs.

“But importantly we also carried out work aimed at protecting children from exploitation and to raise awareness of tactics used by drugs gangs.

“Officers visited care homes and schools, spoke to staff at hotels and taxi firms so they know the signs to be aware of, and ex-offenders now working as mentors with the charity St Giles came in to share their experiences with our officers.

“This was a week of joint activity with other forces and charities but rest assured we are targeting County Lines gangs every day of the week.”

(BIRMINGHAM, U.K.) SCAM ALERT: WM Police Report: Man charged in connection with ‘Nottingham Knockers’ type scam #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Sept.23: Officers yesterday we arrested a man on suspicion of using the tactic to talk his way inside a 95-year-old woman’s Allesley home last month……

#AceDailyNews reports that recently WM Police officers urged everyone in the area to be vigilant against so called ‘Nottingham Knockers’ – scammers who go door-to-door pretending to be selling homewares but who are looking for an opportunity to sneak inside and steal…….For more safety advice go to this section of their website.

20th September 2021

The trusting woman opened her door to a man on 27 August at around midday. He was offering things like cloths and tea towels for sale.

He then claimed to be thirsty and when the woman went to get him a glass of water he sneaked inside and swiped her purse. He even drank the water before leaving with her cash and cards.

Yesterday our officers spotted a man in Walgrave Road who we’d been looking for in connection with the offence.

He tried running off but they arrested him in back gardens.

A 42-year-old man has now been charged with burglary and is due in court this afternoon.

We’re also really keen to hear from any residents who may have experienced this type of con in recent weeks.

The scam involves the offender suggesting they’ve been released from prison and are trying to turn their life around as a salesperson offering housewares to residents.

If you believed you’ve been targeted then please get in touch. Call us on 101 or message us via Live Chat through our website.

(BIRIMINGHAM, U.K) Crown Court Report: A man has admitted killing a person and trying to kill or wound seven others in a series of stabbings in the city in September #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – June.30: Today (Monday 28 June), 28-year-old Zephaniah McLeod has pleaded guilty to four counts of attempted murder, three counts of wounding and manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility: University library intern Jacob Billington, 23, died and seven others were injured in five separate incidents in the early hours of 6 September.

#AceDailyNews reports BIRMINGHAM U.K. Stabbings: Man admits Jacob Billington killing and according to West Midlands Police: Zephaniah McLeod admitted a charge of manslaughter and four counts of attempted murder

Zephaniah McLeod
Zephaniah McLeod

The events in the early hours of Sunday 6 September began half an hour after midnight when a 33-year-old man was stabbed in Constitution Hill leaving him with a neck wound. Twenty minutes later a 25-year-old woman was stabbed to her shoulder in Livery Street and, minutes after that in Barwick Street, a 29-year-old man was left in a critical condition with a chest wound.

Zephaniah McLeod, 28, of Nately Grove, Selly Oak, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to Mr Billington’s manslaughter.

At Birmingham Crown Court, he also admitted four counts of attempted murder and three of wounding.

Appearing via video link, McLeod was told he would be sentenced on 27 and 28 September.

PA Media: A total of eight people were injured after the attacks in and around the city’s Gay Village

Mr Billington, from Crosby, Merseyside, was stabbed in Irving Street while enjoying a night out with school friends.

A post-mortem examination found the intern at Sheffield Hallam University died of a stab wound to the neck.

His family were present in court and over video link to hear McLeod’s pleas and they heard he has paranoid schizophrenia.

Seven others were hurt in the cluster of attacks across the city centre including Mr Billington’s old school friend and bandmate Michael Callaghan.

In a statement after his death, Mr Billington’s family said he was “the light of our life” and his death had devastated them.

On Monday, in addition to the charge of manslaughter, he admitted four counts of attempted murder.

He pleaded not guilty to three other counts of attempted murder but instead admitted three charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutor Karim Khalil QC told the court the guilty and not guilty pleas were acceptable to the prosecution.

He added psychiatrists for both prosecution and defence agreed McLeod suffered from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the events.

“It was unquestionably a condition which affected his ability to understand all that was going on,” Mr Khalil added.

The attacks happened at four locations across Birmingham city centre

He added consultations had taken place before the decision with victims and Mr Billington’s parents.

The Recorder of Birmingham, Judge Melbourne Inman QC, said of the stabbings: “There are many people touched and affected by the case.” He added it was important the psychiatrists involved in assessing McLeod were given time to help the court decide on his sentence.

McLeod’s attacks happened in the space of 90 minutes: Police were first called just after 00:30 to Constitution Hill, where a 33-year-old man sustained a neck woundAbout 20 minutes later they were sent to Livery Street, near Snow Hill railway station, where they found a 25-year-old woman who had been stabbed in the shoulderMinutes later a man, 29, was found in a critical condition with a chest wound on Barwick Street:

West Midlands Police said after leaving Barwick Street, McLeod dumped his knife in a drain, caught a taxi home, rearmed and headed back into the city centre: At 01:50, officers were despatched to Irving Street, where Mr Billington was found with fatal injuries and his 23-year-old friend critically injuredAbout 10 minutes later, police were called to Hurst Street, in the city’s Gay Village, to find a 23-year-old woman had been critically injured and two men, aged 24 and 29, had been stabbed.

Det Ch Insp Jim Munro said the force used footage from the large number of CCTV cameras in the city to help track down McLeod after the attacks: “ We were able to match the clothing McLeod wore to witness and victim descriptions, to identify him and he was arrested from his home address 24 hours later,” he said.

(BIRMINGHAM, U.K.) WM POLICE REPORT: Officers have executed a warrant at a ‘Black Country Industrail Unit and uncovered a cryptocurrency ‘mine’ that was stealing thousands of pounds worth of electricity from the mains supply #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – May.30: Officers heard how lots of people were visiting the unit at different times of day, lots of wiring and ventilation ducts were visible, and a police drone picked up a considerable heat source from above:

WM Police Officers have uncovered a Bitcoin ‘mine’ during industrial unit raid: Officers forced entry to the premises in Great Bridge Industrial Estate, Sandwell, on 18 May on the back of intelligence suggesting it was being used as a cannabis farm.

27th May 2021

Crypto

They are all classic cannabis factory signs – but when officers gained entry they found a huge bank of around 100 computer units as part of what’s understood to be a Bitcoin mining operation.

Crypto mine

The IT equipment was seized and enquiries with Western Power revealed the electric supply had been bypassed and thousands of pounds worth had been stolen to power the ‘mine’.

Sandwell Police Sergeant Jennifer Griffin, said: “It’s certainly not what we were expecting! It had all the hallmarks of a cannabis cultivation set-up and I believe it’s only the second such crypto mine we’ve encountered in the West Midlands.

“My understanding is that mining for cryptocurrency is not itself illegal but clearly abstracting electricity from the mains supply to power it is.

“We’ve seized the equipment and will be looking into permanently seizing it under the Proceeds of Crime Act. No-one was at the unit at the time of the warrant and no arrests have been made – but we’ll be making enquiries with the unit’s owner.”

The warrant was one of almost 50 executed as part of County Lines Intensification Week (17-23 May) which led to 84 arrests, significant drug seizures and the recovery of weapons including a sawn-off shotgun and a blank firing pistol converted to discharge live rounds.

He was taken to hospital where he continues to recover from his injuries: Two 15-year-old boys were arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder. One has now been charged and will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow (16 Apr). He cannot be named due to his age: The other has been released on bail pending further enquiries:

Superintendent Sally Simpson said: “Our investigations into the incidents on Tuesday evening are continuing at pace and this is a significant step forward: “ We understand the shock and concern that these incidents have caused residents in the area and the wider community, and I wish to stress that we are determined to route out those who continue to cause harm to others: “ We continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward, particularly anyone who may be withholding information through a misguided sense of loyalty. We must all work together to reduce the violence we are seeing.”
