10:44 GMT:

The administration of the president of Ukraine has claimed that“Assurances of opposition leaders about the necessity of the ceasefire and return to dialogue were only a maneuver to buy time to mobilize militants and deliver weapons to Independence Square (central protest site in Kiev)”.

Despite the announced truce, the militants launched a fresh assault on law enforcement at 9:00am on February 20.

“All attempts by the authorities to establish dialogue towards peaceful settlement of the conflict were ignored by militants who went on the offensive. They operate in organized groups, using fire-arms, including sniper rifles, with deadly force.

The law enforcement officers are not armed with firearms and use impact munitions only,” maintains the president’s administration.
